Send SMS text messages to athletes and parents directly from the CRM.

How to Send an SMS
- Navigate to Communications
- Click Compose
- Select SMS as the channel
Selecting Recipients
The recipient selector filters to contacts with valid phone numbers:
- Search by name or phone number
- Select individuals or groups
- Contacts without a valid phone number are flagged and cannot be selected
- A warning shows how many contacts were excluded due to missing phone numbers
Writing Your Message
- SMS is text only — no templates, no HTML formatting
- Keep messages concise and actionable
- There’s no subject line for SMS
Sending
Click Send to queue your message. SMS messages are:
- Sent via Twilio
- Processed asynchronously
- Delivery status tracked and shown in the communication log
Delivery Statuses
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Queued | Waiting to be sent |
| Sent | Handed off to carrier |
| Delivered | Confirmed received by recipient’s phone |
| Failed | Could not be delivered |
Opt-Out
Recipients can reply STOP to opt out of future text messages. This is handled automatically and their opt-out status is synced back to Teams Elevated.
Tips
- SMS is best for time-sensitive messages (cancellations, schedule changes)
- Keep messages under 160 characters when possible for reliable delivery
- Always check that recipients have valid phone numbers before selecting them
