How unsubscribe and opt-out works for email and SMS communications.

Email Unsubscribe
Every outbound email includes a compliant unsubscribe link at the bottom. This is required by law (CAN-SPAM Act and GDPR).
How It Works
- Recipient clicks the unsubscribe link in any email
- A branded landing page opens (hosted within Teams Elevated)
- They choose their preference:
- Unsubscribe from all club emails — No more emails from this club
- Unsubscribe from team emails only — Still receives club-wide communications
- One-click confirmation — no login required
For Admins
- Unsubscribed contacts appear flagged in the recipient selector
- They are automatically excluded from sends
- Unsubscribe status is visible on the contact’s profile
- Unsubscribes triggered via email provider webhooks are automatically synced
SMS Opt-Out
How It Works
- Recipient replies STOP to any text message
- The opt-out is handled automatically by the SMS provider
- The opt-out status is synced back to the contact record in Teams Elevated
Opting Back In
Recipients can reply START to opt back in to text messages.
Suppression List
Teams Elevated maintains a suppression list to prevent re-sending to unsubscribed contacts:
- Contacts on the suppression list cannot receive communications through that channel
- The suppression list is enforced automatically — even if a contact is manually added to a send, they will be excluded
- Admins can view and manage the suppression list
Compliance
- CAN-SPAM — Every email includes an unsubscribe mechanism and physical address
- GDPR — Contacts can withdraw consent at any time with a single click
Tips
- Never manually remove a contact from the suppression list without their explicit consent
- Monitor unsubscribe rates — high rates may indicate too-frequent or irrelevant messaging
- Use the unsubscribe preferences (all vs team only) to give contacts granular control
